Third Earthquake Rocks Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu Valley

Shimla: Three low-intensity natural disaster quakes hit Himachal Pradesh on Saturday but there were no reports of damage to life or property.

The first quake, measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale, had its epicentre at latitude 31.4 N and longitude 77.5 E, occurred at 0644 hours at a focal depth of 10 km, an IMD bulletin said.

A third quake was felt at 9.05 am at the same spot which measured 4.2 at the Richter scale. While the first quake occurred at 6:44 am, the other hit the region at around 7:05 am.

Panic gripped the area and people came out of their homes.

There were no recent reports about the people died or injured or damage to property.

People in Rampur and Kullu said 10 to 15 tremors were felt in quick succession and they were scared of entering their houses and waited outside.

He added tents have been provided in open places for people unwilling to return to their houses and a huge tree at a school campus, which was posing risk, has been felled. Several areas of the state including Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, and Chopal reported of tremors.
