Tillakaratne Dilshan to retire after 3rd ODI

Tillakaratne Dilshan will play his final one-day global for Sri Lanka against Australia on Sunday after it was confirmed he would retire from the 50-over game.

Meanwhile, David Warner will captain the Australian team in rest of the matches, including T20.

“Surprised to see Smith going back home to prepare for SA tour when this one is not finished”.

He has also scored 1884 runs in 78 Twenty20 Internationals and was Sri Lanka’s top scorer in this year’s World Twenty20 in India.

Skipper Steve Smith (30) rekindled Australia’s hopes of a fightback and Wade showed tremendous grit down the order but it was not enough to complete what would have been a record chase at the ground.

The wicket was more settled than the one used for Sunday’s opening match, but Sri Lanka’s spinners, most notably Seekkuge Prasanna (1-48) and Amila Aponso (4-18), were a constant threat.

Lehmann said he did not have an issue with the comments made by Clarke, Warne and Slater. “They (Marsh and Khawaja) are quality players and we expect them to play better than we did (on Wednesday night)”, said Lehmann. Shaun Marsh, who was overlooked for the first two ODIs with the selectors backing the batsmen who had recently helped Australia to a tri-series win in the Caribbean against West Indies and South Africa, might return to the side. They have now lost nine straight Tests on the sub-continent, having also ceded the Ashes in seaming conditions in England previous year and dropped to third on the International Cricket Council’s rankings.

David Warner will take over the Australia captaincy in Sri Lanka for the rest of the tour.

The third ODI in Dambulla will mark the final ODI for Tillakaratne Dilshan.

“There’s no dramas, they’re entitled to that”.

“We’d planned it for a long time and he took some convincing there is no doubt about that, but as a coaching and selection panel we have to make sure he is fresh and ready to go for Australia”. “But we think it’s the best for Steven to get him right and ready to go”, Lehmann said. “So that’s another opportunity and that’s important for us to get him that experience”.
