Curole said the smaller storm off the coast demands more attention now because it could impact the area soonest. The disturbance has only 10 percent chances of developing into a storm. “It’s chances of development have slightly decreased since yesterday”.

The National Hurricane Center, which tracks tropical storms, said Friday night that the large weather system remains disorganized with upper-level winds unfavorable for significant cyclone development. Residents along the Gulf of Mexico from Texas to Florida should monitor the forecast over the weekend.

Forecast models show Invest 99L could go anywhere between the tip of Florida and south of Houston.

While its path and intensity are highly uncertain, Invest 99L will bring a lot of rain to parts of the Caribbean and eventually southern Florida over the next few days.

“Regardless of development, heavy rains, with the potential to cause flash floods and mud slides, are likely over Hispaniola today and over eastern and central Cuba through the weekend”. We will likely see an increase in tropical moisture across our area especially for the first few days of next week, and this will lead to an increase in coverage of showers and storms across the area.

Invest 99 is now an area of low pressure extending from eastern Cuba northward to the central Bahamas. Florida should expect rain which could continue till next week.

A second area of disturbed weather is located located about a hundred miles south of the coast of southwestern Louisiana. Forecasters expected Gaston to turn back toward the northwest or west-northwest at a slower rate of forward speed during the next couple of days. The Hurricane Center gave the weak disturbance a 10 percent chance of becoming a tropical system before it reaches southeast Texas by Sunday. However, the disturbance named Invest 99L has weakened and may reduce its chances of turning into tropical storm Hermine.
