PORTLAND, Maine (AP) – The Latest on the obscene tirade that Gov.

“LePage knows that his words are widely understood to mean that he thinks that the color of their skin makes some people more likely to commit crimes”.

“When a snot-nosed little guy from Westbrook calls me a racist, now I’d like him to come up here because, tell you right now, I wish it were 1825”, LePage said, according to the Press Herald.

Gov. Paul LePage of ME has never exactly been a wallflower when it comes to courting controversy on the political stage, but has the LePage voicemail this week finally provided sufficient grounds for impeachment?

In a statement, he clarified that when he said he was “after” Gattine, a Democrat, “I meant I would do everything I could to see that he and his agenda is defeated politically”.

Gideon says LePage’s behavior is inappropriate for “any human being who’s functioning normally in society”.

Gattine said during a news conference Friday that when asked Thursday by a reporter about LePage’s comments, he’d said: “The racially charged comments that [the governor] made were not helpful in trying to resolve the incredibly bad drug crisis that we’ve been working on trying to resolve here in ME”.

LePage said in the press conference that there is no racial profiling by ME police.

The Press-Herald editorial board apologized to the United States for electing LePage, who they called obviously unfit for office and expressed relief that he is term-limited.

LePage apologized for the voicemail in a statement on Friday, but justified his reaction saying the label of racist is “the absolute worst, most vile thing you can call a person”.

Gattine said he was stunned to receive the voicemail.

Gov. Paul LePage apologized to “the people of Maine” – but not to the legislator – after he left a voicemail message for Democratic Rep. “But, of course, I was hit very hard from the stage, and you know it’s just one of those things – but, no, I don’t regret anything”.

Gattine revealed that the governor called him again on his cellphone Friday and left a message challenging him to debate the issues at a town hall-style meeting next week in Westbrook. I want you to prove that I’m a racist.

A Westbrook police official said the complaint came from someone who didn’t live in the city. Its unclear if there will be an investigation. “Thank you”, LePage said.

Later Thursday night, LePage called Democratic Rep. In the voicemail, LePage said he wanted to talk with Gattine about the legislator calling him a racist.

House and Senate Democrats and the Maine Democratic Party on Friday questioned LePage’s capacity to lead. The newspaper also reported comments LePage made during an interview at the Blaine House.

NEWS CENTER’s political analysts John Richardson and Phil Harriman spoke on the incident Friday afternoon. Back in January, at the town hall seen in the video below, LePage was describing Maine’s dire drug problem, characterizing the people who import drugs as “guys with the name D-Money, Smoothie, Shifty – these types of guys – they come from CT and NY, they come up here, they sell their heroin, they go back home”.
