Grayson’s Jamyest Williams commits to SC

That good news came Saturday in the form of a commitment from cornerback Jaymest Williams from No. 2 Grayson (Loganville, Ga.).

Williams chose the Gamecocks over Georgia, Ohio State, Tennessee and Clemson, which were all finalists. “It doesn’t matter. So him working to get the starting spot, it just makes me better as well”. “We’ve just always stayed in contact since then”.

Williams is a four-star cornerback, according to the 247Sports.com composite rankings. It also gives SC an extra recruiter at the talent-loaded Grayson high school in Logansville, Georgia.

The Grayson High School playmaker is a highly intriguing addition. In college, he best projects as a defensive back who can also contribute as a special teams returner.

He also plays with a certain edge-a competitive fire that drives him to succeed and made him a coveted recruit. “Perhaps that comes from being forced to prove himself more than most top prospects because of his lack of ideal size (5’9”, 170 lbs).

Williams declined further interviews after the announcement in order to prepare for the game against IMG. That said, it’s hard to imagine him handling the heavy punishment of playing offense on a full-time basis over the long haul.

Perhaps no USC player has endured a more dizzying ride under Muschamp than Williams, the Gamecocks’ leading returning rusher, who started four games and carried for 299 yards last season. “When I was out at practice and wanted to talk to him, I waited an extra 15 minutes because he’s out there when practice is over working with some of the corners, doing extra things and in no rush to get off the field”. It’s a highly promising pickup for the 2017 class.
