Astros starter Doug Fister (11-8) allowed seven hits and four runs in four innings, his shortest outing of the season, as Houston lost its fourth straight game. A smiling Gibbons said the two were simply discussing the game.

Michael Pineda was in the midst of one of the cleanest starts of his miserable 2016 season.

“Theres some truth to the notion of changing momentum. Whoever is pitching has to give you a chance but guys start feeling better about themselves. Joaquin Benoit gave up an RBI single to rookie Aaron Judge that made it 7-4, but Roberto Osuna struck out Didi Gregorius on a 97 miles per hour fastball with two on to end the inning. By the end of the night, the Jays had rapped out 15 hits. He did allow a run in the fifth which put the Yankees on top 6-0, but his scoreless work in the sixth and seventh after the offense put a huge dent in New York’s lead helped lay the foundation for a monstrous comeback.

Josh Donaldson was also talking hitting, which is honestly, the greatest. It looked like (Donaldson) was on everything in that at-bat. “I think you definitely get the feeling that we don’t ever feel like we’re out of a ballgame”.

Edwin Encarnacion hit a tying homer and drove home three runs in the eighth as Toronto took advantage of a complete meltdown by New York’s bullpen.

“It just felt like the momentum was shifting in our direction”, Martin said. Despite the Yankees tacking on 1 more run in the bottom of the fifth against Scott Feldman, the reinvigorated Jays bats would explode to life.

Martin disputes the notion the offence is having a tough time of it.

In the boxscore, it’s a six run victory where Toronto didn’t even have to use Roberto Osuna, but anyone who watched this game in its entirety knows the Jays stole it. There’s always good energy. Our lineup has been good all year long and it is going to continue to be good.

Toronto has had five pitchers get to 20 wins in team history and the only southpaw was David Wells who won 20 during the 2000 season.

“What we have is no quit. The game is never over until the last out and thats how we approach every game.”.

Sabathia (7-10) lasted six innings in a weird outing. The Jays could have easily phoned it in being down by such a large margin while failing to score a single run for 14 innings in the series to that point, but they clearly had other ideas. The last of which came in the form of a three run shot off the bat of Gary Sanchez giving NY a 5-0 lead as rain and lightning began to fill the western sky. Roberto Osuna fanned Didi Gregorius for the final out of the eighth with two on and quickly finished off his 27th save in the ninth.NOTES: According to YES Network research, C Gary Sanchez (23 years, 259 days), is the youngest Yankee to bat fourth before September 1 since Don Mattingly on July 31, 1984 (23 years, 103 days).

Pineda was good, but the rain came and the Yankees can’t use that as an excuse for an implosion. When the game resumed, Feldman was on the mound for the Jays and for the first time this season, Estrada had failed to go at least five innings.

Devon Travis doubled and scored on a throwing error by third baseman Chase Headley.

Happ was lifted after Headley’s infield single with one out in the eighth. His opposite-field fly ball skimmed over right fielder Judges glove and into the first row of seats for his 21st homer of the year, a two-run shot.
