Buccaneers vs. Vikings Game Thread
Quarterback Jameis Winston is expected to play into the second quarter as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers look to break in their No. 1 overall pick during the preseason.

Jameis Winston completed 9-of-19 passes for 131 yards and an interception in the Bucs’ preseason opener Saturday night. Winston went back in the gutter on the Bucs’ fourth through sixth drives, where he was picked by Vikings S Antone Exum, sacked twice more, and fumbled a center-quarterback exchange. One of his completions was a 40-yard hookup with wide receiver Vincent Jackson. While he won’t unseat second-year quarterback Teddy Bridgewater as Minnesota’s starter, Heinicke completed 12 of 16 passes for 103 yards and a passer rating of 91.4. Most of that production came in the two-minute warning, when he led the team down the field on a 76-yard drive and ran in the only touchdown he scored today.
The New Orleans Saints will face Winston for the first time in Week 2 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Jameis Winston’s first preseason pass?
“I think he’s going to do excellent for the Bucs”. Diggs had two receptions for 26 yards, but it was his three punt returns for 54 yards that ignited the crowd.

“It was preseason so it was kind of low intensity, but it was good to get one under your belt”, Winston said, adding: “Of course, I had butterflies, but that’s just because I wanted to do the right thing”. “We let some things get away from us at the end, a little bit of sloppy play”. He was helped by a surprisingly strong performance by the offensive line, but he looks pretty good. Audie Cole has been with the first team in training camp, but there’s time for Kendricks to win the job. Two plays later he hit Jarius Wright for a 26 yard reception helping the Vikings get in position for a Blair Walsh 46 yard field goal that gave the Vikings an early 3-0 lead. Martin seems to have improved his agility, however, he probably won’t be playing a lot tonight. But the player who really stood out was Mike James – not so much for his running as for his receiving, catching three passes for 29 yards, and rushing in a touchdown. He also rushed for a score just before halftime. Rookie Taylor Heincke then played the second half.
