UFC: Cain Velasquez to take on Fabricio Werdum for title
Werdum, of course, welcomes it, but this time around he would like to fight him in his hometown.

Cain Velasquez is going to have a rematch against Fabricio Werdum, the current UFC heavyweight champion. I believe there were a lot of reasons, actually: the altitude, the fact that I wanted it so bad, that he hasn’t fought for a while, but his coach said he was in great shape and would give him a worse beating than he gave “Cigano”, so I knew he wasn’t confident.
Since Velasquez was on the sidelines between 2013 and 2015, there emerged several worthy competitors that have earned a shot to challenge for the UFC heavyweight championship against Fabricio Werdum.
There is no denying that Velasquez holds dominant victories over both Dos Santos and Big Foot Silva, including two successful title defenses.
Werdum was a pretty big underdog in their first fight and Velasquez seemed to have some conditioning issues which could be attributed to the elevation. Velasquez, known for his tremendous cardio, hadn’t competed in 602 days due to various injuries.
However, the UFC paired Arlovski with Frank Mir and they are targeting a Miocic vs. Rothwell bout for an October. 24 Fight Night event in Ireland.
Finally, we arrived at the obvious choice, everybody’s favorite happy-go-lucky Brazilian heavyweight, #2 Junior Dos Santos.
Werdum is riding a six-fight winning streak, all since returning to the UFC after a four-fight run in Strikeforce. This is a no-brainer rematch to make for the UFC, and also the clear number one contender to the title.
“I offered him a rematch after the fight because I respect him like I respected Fedor (Emelianenko)”, said Werdum via MMAfighting.com.
Many fans were shocked by the first fight not just because “Vai Cavalo” brutally beat Velasquez, but because Velasquez just didn’t look like himself.

Although there’s no timetable for the rematch, Werdum claims he will talk to the brass next week to discuss the matter.
