U.S. swimmer Lochte charged by Brazilian police

Lochte can decide whether to introduce a defense in Brazil, a police statement said, adding that the indictment will also be sent to the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) ethics commission. Police say Lochte will be summoned to Brazil for the August 14 incident but is allowed to send a lawyer on his behalf.

Mr Lochte said he had been robbed at gunpoint after being stopped in a taxi by men in police uniform. But on Thursday he picked up a new sponsor – Pine Bros. Pine Bros. Softish Throat Drops said it would launch a series of ads featuring Lochte with the slogan: “Forgiving on Your Throat”. Romo was forced from the pocket by a blitz from K.J. Wright.

Lochte and three other USA swimmers, Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and James Feigen, said they were robbed at gunpoint after the cab they were in was pulled over.

Lochte was embroiled in controversy at the Rio Olympic Games after a very late night on the town turned sour. He could, however, sent a lawyer because he is not required to appear in person, CNN reported.

Top sponsors such as Speedo and Ralph Lauren abandoned Lochte this week.

The summons is expected soon, as civil police in Brazil said they will complete their investigation into Lochte’s initial claims this week.

Lochte has won six Olympic gold medals, including one in Rio for his victory with the United States 4×200 metre freestyle relay team.

The Rio 2016 Olympics may be over, but USA swimmer Ryan Lochte is not out of deep water just yet.

Lochte has apologized, saying he was drunk and that his behavior led to the incident.

But police said he made up the story and officers produced video evidence that the group were actually challenged by security guards after they vandalised a petrol station toilet.

He has admitted he “over-exaggerated” what had happened, although he has continued to claim he was not telling an outright lie.
