This is a developing story.
It is with great sadness that I inform the Ithaca College community that one of our students passed away at Cayuga Medical Center early on the morning of Sunday, August 28, from injuries sustained in a stabbing incident that occurred off campus, near the intersection of College Avenue and Campus Road.
Medical personnel attempted to treat both individuals, including administering CPR, as IPD officers held up a white sheet to shield the victims from more than 100 bystanders, many of whom had been at parties in Collegetown. Another male student was treated for stab wounds and released, the school said.
Police have not released details about the fight or specified the weapon used in the stabbing.
Ithaca College is not releasing the identities of the students pending family notification.
The college is offering counseling assistance beginning at 10 a.m.in the lounge in the Circles Community Building, and a larger community gathering is also being planned, according to a statement released on behalf of President Tom Rochon. “Please be sure to take care of yourselves and each other throughout the coming days”.
Two students had been stabbed when police arrived.
IPD says the New York State Police Forensic Identification Unit is processing the crime scene and interviews are under way.
