New Tesla Car Is as Quick as a Bugatti Veyron
“Model S and Model X are engineered to be the safest cars on the road and to have the highest ratings from NHTSA”, Tesla said.

The new battery also extends the vehicle’s range to an estimated 315 miles, making it the first electric vehicle to go beyond 300 miles. The previous top range was 294 miles.
Ferrari and Porsche take notice – Tesla’s new electric auto might outlap you soon.
The upgrade will also enable the Model S P100D Ludicrous to accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds, making it the world’s third-fastest production auto.
There are small changes and improvements with the P100D, including some upgrades made to the wiring harness and other small differences, but the drivetrain remains the same.
The Model X P100D, conversely, will do 0-60 miles per hour in 2.9 seconds with the Ludicrous, offering 289 mile-range, and its tag price varies $135,500-155,250.
If you’ve ordered the older Model S P90D Ludicrous (but haven’t received it yet), you can upgrade to the improved battery for $10,000.
The news source notes that the 315-mile battery range “sets a new benchmark for automotive engineers looking to lessen fears about so-called range anxiety, which drivers encounter when traveling longer distances in an electric vehicle”. Existing owners can upgrade by paying $20,000 because the old pack would require recycling. Musk first unveiled models with Ludicrous mode a year ago. Volkswagen is expected to reveal an all-electric auto in October that could have as much as 372 miles of range, and Porsche is working on a Tesla killer with 300 miles of range that could pop up in showrooms in 2019.

The new battery pack is also available for the performance version of the Model X sport utility vehicle.
