Kyle Busch wrecks in Michigan practice, loses qualifying spot
He got in his backup auto late in practice and will compete in that vehicle Sunday in the Pure Michigan 400, starting from the back of the field.

“A lot of work has been done by the race teams already leading up to the final 10 races, and we feel like that’s the best decision for the sport”.
However, would you be surprised if I said that Michigan worldwide Speedway, where the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is racing this coming weekend, is actually the fastest track on the NACAR circuit?
A special high-drag aerodynamic package was used at Indianapolis Motor Speedway last month and will be in place again this weekend at Michigan, and it received some criticism from drivers. “I wasn’t sure that we were going have it”.
“I think it’s important to go back and look at what our original plan was, and that was Kentucky, Michigan and Darlington”, O’Donnell said. So our messaging all along was that we had the intention of keeping the Chase where it was with the 2015 rules package.
“There probably will be (changes to the Talladega rules)”, O’Donnell said. “I think that’s the only attitude you can have right now because no one knows what’s going to happen”. Busch has returned from injuries suffered in the Xfinity season opener at Daytona, missing the first 11 races.
Busch has been critical of the amount of grass surface at some track infields.
“I think we should have more grass and it should be taller”, said Busch, who is still fighting to stay eligible for the Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship and can not afford incidents like Saturday’s. This is a major blow to Busch’s chances to win the Pure Michigan 400.
“In the final round there, it was just a matter of not screwing up or it could have been all top-four”, Busch said.
“Everything was fine. I was just trying to run around there and maintain speed”, the JGR driver told reporters after being released from the in-field care centre. “Instead of overcorrecting, I tried to just continue to make it rotate and spin”.
Long an outspoken proponent of eliminating infield grass at race tracks, Busch couldn’t resist a sarcastic quip after the accident. In his last four starts at MIS, he has finished 31st, 41st, 39th and 43rd.

Reigning Sprint Cup champion Kevin Harvick was fastest in the No. 4 SHR Chevrolet laying down a lap of 194.784 miles per hour and he said the high drag package was a relatively simple thing to deal with – push the gas pedal to the floor and keep it there.
