Iran dismisses allegations of arms shipment to Yemen

The attack also came as Saudi Arabia claimed that Iran, its regional rival, is supplying Houthis in Yemen with missiles. Some of the wounded are in critical condition, which may lead to a higher death toll.

The official IRNA news agency quotes Mohammad Javad Zarif on Friday as saying these are “baseless accusations”.

Houthi supporters and activists posted photographs on social media showing lifeless bodies of children and charred remains in the aftermath on the attack.

Fighting escalated in March 2015 with the start of Saudi-led airstrikes targeting the Houthis and their allies who are loyal to Yemen’s ousted president. The US backed the Saudi war, and has been conducting refueling operations for the Saudi warplanes bombing Yemen, which have killed thousands of civilians over the previous year and a half, and which are fueling increasing global condemnation.

The sources said the first batch of 350 Yemeni fighters left Aden on Sunday morning for an island in Eritrea, an African country across the Red Sea, where they will be transferred to the Saudi borders.

UN-sponsored peace talks in Kuwait between the Yemeni government and Houthis collapsed this month.

Saudi military aircraft have carried out a new round of strikes against several areas across Yemen, prompting more retaliatory attacks by Yemeni armed forces. Those photos have not been made public.
