Robert Guerrero not taking David Emanuel Peralta lightly

Guerrero looked exhausted after the fourth round to the point where his power disappeared on his punches and he stopped throwing shots. He’s held an interim belt in that division, but he’s lost all three times he’s fought for the full title. I spoke briefly to David Peralta and David told me “I haven’t fought since past year, I was a cab driver, driving a cab in Argentina” I was offered a chance to come to the US and fight and I came away victorious.

Peralta boxed his way to a 12-round split decision in the main event of Premier Boxing Champion (PBC) on Spike Saturday night from the Honda Center in Anaheim.

Specifically, Peralta utilized a sneaky right hand that he was able to land over and over again in the second half of the fight while Guerrero just had no answer for it. Guerrero seemed like a fighter a little confused with his style. This newspaper had it a 114-114 draw. Guerrero, 146.7 lbs of Gilrouy, CA is 33-5-1.

Peralta, who will turn 34 on August 31, is 5-1-1 in his last seven contests, the one blemish being a 10-round split decision against Cristian Nestor Romero in April 2015.

Peralta, 33, had not fought in 15 months.

“I wanted to retire before this fight”, said Peralta. “I won’t be a taxi driver anymore”. Guerrero’s fights against Peralta and Aaron Martinez showed clearly that he’s no longer a factor at 147. That said, here’s what’s of greater concern when one contemplates Guerrero’s desire to fight the 147-pound elite: He’s already been fed to Keith Thurman and Garcia; what if Premier Boxing Champions sacrifices him to the likes of Errol Spence Jr. next? In the 9th round Peralta landed a flush right hand the sent Guerrero falling into the ropes but the replay reveled that it may have been a trip that sent him stumbling. Never the less, Guerrero wasn’t going to win the fight, because he was getting pummeled and outworked by Peralta. Unfortunately for him, veteran Willie Hernandez had other ideas, as he outboxed Angulo and won comfortably via scores of 98-92, 97-93 and 97-93.

In the primary undercard we’ll see Alfredo Angulo (24-5, 20 KOs) against Freddy Hernandez (33-8, 22 KOs). “Who is going to fight me there?” he said.

There were no knockdowns.

A series of Angulo punches in the fifth round backed Hernandez and cut him on the left eyelid, a red area puffing un- der the eye in the sixth as Angulo urged more toe-to-toe action from his 37-year-old foe. “I’m focused and the fans can expect to see me leave everything in the ring like always”, Guerrero said. “I didn’t think I was losing the fight and I had to stay calm in order to stay with my plan”.

2012 U S. Olympian Terrell Guasha, (19-0, 9 KOs) remains undefeated with a 10-round majority decision over the Bronx’s Steve Martinez, (16-3, 13 KOs) in the opening bout of the PBC on Spike telecast.
