The Hurricane Center has also reported that Gaston has strengthened into the first major hurricane of the season, though it is not expected to make landfall.
It’s forecast to move away from the Keys and into the Gulf of Mexico overnight.
The National Hurricane Center does expect TD9 to turn into a tropical storm. On Wednesday, it is forecast to curve to the north.
An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft is scheduled to pass through the storm Sunday afternoon.
Separately, Hurricane Gaston is gathering strength as it moves northwestward in the Atlantic, but forecasters say it poses no threat to land. A tropical storm watch may be posted later in the day.
Hurricane-force winds extended outward up to 25 miles (35 kilometers) from the center, and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 kilometers).
Meanwhile, the Gulf Coast could see impacts from another system that might bring additional rain to states such as Louisiana, which is still reeling from deadly floods this month that killed 13 people and destroyed thousands of homes.
