Julio Macias Gonzalez had a bruise on his neck, given to him by his 24-year-old girlfriend, according to Hoy Estado De Mexico.

His 24-year-old girlfriend has now disappeared, with fears that she may have absconded after his death.

In 2011 a 44-year-old woman was left partially paralysed after having a stroke in similar circumstances.

She lost the function of her left arm after her romantic meeting and had to be driven to a hospital.

Love bites – which are caused by one person sucking on another’s skin and bursting blood vessels – can be unsafe in exceptional cases.

The only visible injury was a faint lovebite on the right of her neck near an artery.

It is understood the suction can cause damage to a major artery in the beck, which then creates a clot that can potentially travel to the heart or brain triggering stroke.

“To my knowledge, it’s the first time someone has been hospitalised by a hickey”.

What is a love bite?

Strokes have different levels of severity and can cause paralysis and death.

Doctors noticed a love bite on the side of her neck. The suction on the small area leads to blood vessels under the skin to burst – causing bruises on most occasions. Paramedics were unable to save him, and later attributed the incident to his hickey.
