Several news outlets speculated that Spears appearance will eventually help “Jane the Virgin” get higher ratings.

The 31-year-old Jane the Virgin star recently took to Twitter to express her excitement over Britney Spears joining the cast for a guest-starring gig this season.
“I hope she comes into the family as much as we’ll have our arms open for her”, she said.
Spears will play herself, who happens to be Jaime Camil’s character, Rogelio de la Vega’s, nemesis.
“The quality of their interaction is a little bit in dispute between what Britney thinks and what Rogelio thinks”.
Spears last appeared on a television sitcom back in 2008, playing Abby, Barney Stinson’s (Neil Patrick Harris) ex-girlfriend on How I Met Your Mother for two episodes.

“Britney was a fan of the show and when we found out we said please, please be on the show and she agreed”. The cast of “Jane the Virgin” responded that they are excited to work with the pop singer, and that it was a great honor to have her appear on the show. She eventually delivers a baby boy.
