Mark Sanchez’s Days As Broncos QB Likely Over Before They Really Begin

Probable future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning had ridden off into retirement following his Super Bowl 50 victory, and incumbent youngster Brock Osweiler opted for a better paycheck in Houston rather than taking a paycut to remain in Denver.

The question now might become whether or not the Broncos even keep Sanchez on the roster.

Mark Sanchez may be the odd man out in Denver.

Quarterbacks Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch each led touchdown drives and the Denver Broncos beat the Los Angeles Rams 17-9 on Saturday night. In Saturday’s win, Siemian tossed his first touchdown pass of the summer, but more importantly, the former seventh-rounder looked comfortable operating the offense. Though he didn’t produce a breathtaking performance, Siemian was solid against a stout Rams defense.

“I have to continue this evaluation process and decide what I think is best for the team”, Kubiak said. “I think he’s made some strides and I thought he did a good job tonight”. I’ll do that. Does that mean I’m going to do that [Sunday] or Monday? He threw 12 passes against the Broncos before getting hurt, but he didn’t throw a TD and only completed a third of those passes.

After leaving the game against the Denver Broncos, Rams’ rookie QB Jared Goff, the first overall pick in the NFL Draft, had x-rays done as a precautionary measure.

Lynch was 6 of 13 for 57 yards. The series carried over into the second quarter but ended at seven plays and 19 yards, after an Anderson carry on fourth down fell short of a first down. Of course, it was all against the San Francisco Forty-Niner’s second and third-string defenses. And afterwards, Lynch told the media that he was ready for the responsibility. Obviously this is a tough turnaround week in the National Football League, so I’ve got a lot invested and a lot of work that I can make some decisions off of now. I’ll go back and watch the game and clean up some things.

Give the Broncos credit for this: They aren’t afraid to make the risky decision when it comes to the quarterback position.

If you’re think that naming Siemian the starting quarterback of an elite team such as the Broncos is the same as putting a Lawn Boy motor in a new Porsche Carrera, you’re not alone. Nor does he offer the high ceiling that the Broncos’ younger options do.
