A auto rammed through the barriers at about 3 a.m. local time and one or more attackers exploded a bomb near the laboratories which caught fire, RTL said.

It then stopped in the vehicle park of the Institute where one or several suspects exploded a bomb near the laboratories.

Police have sealed off the area.

The empty building in the suburb north of Brussels was left in flames following the explosion, but no one was injured.

The institute is part of Belgium’s federal justice system.

Belgium has been on high alert since coordinated March 22 suicide bomb attacks on the Brussels airport and subway killed 32 people.

Belgian media said the blast was caused by a auto which rammed the building.
