Gary Kubiak excited about ‘progress’ from Paxton Lynch
Denver Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian (13) thaws as Los Angeles Rams defensive end Eugene Sims (97) pursues during the first half of an NFL preseason football game, Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, in Denver. Coach Gary Kubiak said Siemian did 80 percent of his usual workload and is still on track to be the starter against the Rams.

Siemian finished the game 10-17 with 122 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
There was no question this week as to who the Denver Broncos starting quarterback would be heading into their third preseason game, but after the game, there was still uncertainty in terms of who will wear the QB1 title on September 8. Knowing this, and also knowing the significance that National Football League teams place on their third preseason game, it is abundantly clear that the 23-year-old is the front-runner to be the team’s starter for the Week 1 Super Bowl 50 rematch against the Carolina Panthers. In contrast, the Rams never got through to the Broncos’ quarterbacks.
The Broncos have played two preseason games, winning one and losing one. “So, I’m going to keep going and i’m going to keep doing with I’ve been doing”, Lynch said. “I’m telling the truth”.
Siemian started getting warmed up when the Broncos got the ball back at their 25 with 11:31 left in the half, down 6-0.
To me, the approach seems to be “who is going to f*** up the least next season?”
Even with an uncertain placement on the depth chart, Denver Broncos’ rookie quarterback Paxton Lynch has been impressive.
Super Bowl MVP Von Miller recorded his first sack of the preseason, a 9-yard takedown of Case Keenum on the Rams’ first series.
“[It] felt good. I got a lot of playing time”, said Lynch via ESPN. However, I think that the Los Angeles Rams were able to show some things on how to beat this vaunted defense. Should Mark Sanchez, the seven-year veteran, be the second quarterback to take the field, perhaps Kubiak feels Lynch hasn’t progressed enough to be able to take over at moment’s notice as the backup. I feel comfortable in the offense.
Should Lynch come in as the No. 2 quarterback, however, Sanchez’s time in Denver could be in jeopardy. “I think he was a little sore coming out but he worked through it and hopefully he’ll be better (Thursday)”. Gets a bad break on the “go’ ball and comes right back and goes down the field”. I know everybody says, ‘Dress rehearsal, ‘ but I don’t know if it’s like that any more. “I knew he was a hard worker from a year ago. I just haven’t come out publicly and said it”. Kubiak said. “It sure looks that way to me”. I told you guys that.

He is also going to be the opening day starter for the defending Super Bowl champions. There are business factors at work as well given that Sanchez is slated to count $4.5 million against the salary cap and the Broncos would not have to surrender a conditional draft pick to the Philadelphia Eagles if Sanchez was not on the roster to open the season.
