Four of the Final Five gymnastics greats from the Rio Olympics wished ailing teammate Gabby Douglas well and got hugs from best female video victor Beyonce on Sunday night at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Rihanna performed four separate medleys of her biggest hits throughout the show after she was named the receipt of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, MTV’s equivalent of a lifetime achievement honour.
NEW YORK, United States-Beyonce on Sunday won MTV’s Video of the Year for “Formation”, her career’s most politically charged work which showed solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. “People say, ‘Oh, but you have that beef with Taylor, ‘ but I love all y’all – that’s why I called her”, he told the crowd, referencing their “Famous” feud over his controversial lyrics.
Drake continued: “She’s someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22 years old”. She won best female video, presented to her by four of the Final Five gymnast, excluding Gabby Douglas, who is hospitalized for a mouth infection.
West has had even more history with the awards show: He famously jumped onstage and stole Taylor Swift’s microphone at the 2009 show and previous year gave an 11-minute speech onstage – after being introduced by Swift – and announced he was going to run for president in 2020.
Beyonce is the top nominee with 11, including video of the year for “Formation”. “All my adult life i’ve looked up to her even though she’s younger than me”.
“She succeeds by doing something that no one in this music industry does, which is being herself”, he said, adding, “we love the woman who hasn’t changed since day one”.
In that respect, 2016 marked a return to form: Pop’s biggest acts at the height of their game delivered outsized, provocative performances worthy of the VMA stage. She was joined by rapper G-Eazy – and she lip synched the hook to his hit song, “Me, Myself and I”.

Finally, Jimmy Fallon impersonated swimmer Ryan Lochte, making false claims on his musical accomplishments – a reference to the accusation that Lochte filed a false robbery report while in Rio.
