Trump campaign plans $10M ad buy for coming week

Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence, the governor of IN, made a series of bold declarations during a Loudoun County rally Saturday, saying Donald Trump, if elected president, will rid the world of ISIS, repeal Obamacare and issue a moratorium on any new federal regulations. And, as he often does, Christie chided the media for its coverage of the race.

Trump, speaking on the Iowa State Fairgrounds with hay bales stacked behind him, sought to clarify his views on how to overhaul the USA immigration system after saying earlier in the week that he was softening on his plan to deport all 11 million illegal immigrants. “You see someone who is engaging the American people, listening to the American people, hearing from all sides”, he said.

Trump backtracked on his new position later in the week – including in a CNN interview, where he claimed the modification was not a “softening” but actually “a hardening”. Then, facing repeated questioning, he returned to his hard-line stance that there is no path to legalization for immigrants unless they leave the country and come back.

ABC This Week host Martha Raddatz asked Christie if he agreed that Clinton was a bigot, and Christie retorted that Clinton brought the mud-slinging upon herself. The country’s got some very very serious problems. In February, Clinton told The Washington Post that the words were a mistake: “Looking back, I shouldn’t have used those words, and I wouldn’t use them today”. He proposed to instead monitor the border electronically and with drones, as well as to erect fencing in certain areas, and use an electronic verification system – similar to how FedEx tracks packages, he had said – to keep tabs on foreign visitors.

“It does really bother me”, he said.

“When they call, I give”.

Trump also sought to tie illegal immigration to protecting American jobs. In recent weeks, he has made more of an effort to gain support from minority voters, but his efforts have been futile to this point.

His surrogates on Sunday refused to comment on Trump’s reaction to the fatal shooting of National Basketball Association star Dwyane Wade’s cousin Friday, as she pushed her baby in a stroller in Chicago.

Trump’s initial tweet on Saturday, which read in part, “Just what I have been saying”.

“But my priority is the well-being of 300 million American citizens, including millions of Hispanic citizens and legal residents who want a secure border, a safe and drug-free community, and a growing economy”, Trump said. Trump tweeted. He later sent a tweet offering his “condolences to Dwyane Wade and his family”. “They are in my thoughts and prayers”.

Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway acknowledged that Trump’s language on the issue of immigration has changed, saying on CBS’ “Face the Nation” Sunday that Trump “is not talking about a deportation force, but he is talking about being fair and humane, but also being fair to the American workers who are competing for for jobs, being fair to all of us who want secure borders”. At a news conference to explain the benefits of the ride for a veteran’s charity, Ernst was confronted with a question about one of the latest controversies for Trump’s campaign: reports of CEO Steve Bannon’s domestic violence charge from his first marriage.
