Mourinho lauds ‘marvellous’ Rashford post PL win over Hull City

While United’s victory extended their 100 per cent winning start to the campaign ahead of next month’s derby against Manchester City at Old Trafford, Hull dropped points for the first time this season under Phelan. Off went Juan Mata, replaced by Marcus Rashford.

The Manchester United boss probably did not appreciate the irony of some of his comments after Rashford scored a last-gasp minute victor at Hull and in 20 minutes showed just why he’s the most exciting young talent in Premier League football.

In his pre-match news conference on Friday, Mourinho was quick to state that Rashford will get chances to play across all competitions this season.

Rooney, who played in a deeper role under Hodgson at Euro 2016 with mixed success, was listed among the midfielders among the 23-man selection but Allardyce told reporters that had little bearing on his thinking.

Wayne Rooney says José Mourinho has already created a winning mentality at Manchester United to boost the confidence of a team who have lacked such belief in recent years. Mourinho confirmed that the 18-year-old can play alongside Ibrahimovic, and a probable formation change might be on the cards for the Red Devils.

Rashford replaced Juan Mata in the 71st minute and, with United looking set for a frustrating draw that would have halted their 100 per cent start in the EPL, he scored in the second minute of time added on.

“Sam knows that if he needs the kid, he has the kid, but I think he has so many strikers that this time he chose not to select him and we respect that”.

If he’s breaking into the Manchester United team he’ll be in my squad.

“Marcus has the ideal head for an 18-year-old, very stable, not in the moon. He has a muscle injury in his back and it is not good”, said Mourinho.

“His journey is something that deserves to be in this squad and me to have a look at as a potential player going forward”, Allardyce said.

It’s important that he gets games because he hasn’t played that much.

Rashford, 18, burst on to the scene last season during a UEFA Europa League tie against Midtjylland.

“It is time for him to acknowledge that he simply can’t keep doing both – and I mean that for his own good”.
