Police find no gunman at Los Angeles airport

LAX Airport went into lockdown after police received false reports of an “active shooter” and ordered passengers onto the tarmac and out of terminals about 9pm local time.

The Los Angeles Fire Department also responded and noted that “no significant incident” has been noted, KTLA reported.

Airport police say traffic to the terminal area has been closed. The incident reportedly began because of loud noises in one of the terminals, according to a police advisory.

Scores of people could be seen running from the terminal out on to the sidewalks and streets.

He said: “They turned me over, put handcuffs on me and then told me what was going on… they searched me”.

One passenger, Scott McDonald, told Associated Press he had been trying to disembark from a plane and had been told to get back on.

While flights were reportedly seen taking off again, as of 10:32 PDT, LAX reported that some terminals were still being cleared and advised travelers to contact their airlines for flight status.

Another report said that people were barricading themselves inside a cafe at Terminal 8.

Hoax reports of shooting created panic and chaos at the Los Angeles airport.

Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the source of the initial report.
