Jurgen Klopp defends Alberto Moreno from criticism at Arsenal

Most of the movement exhibited by the Liverpool team was in and around the Burnley penalty box but there was not enough of penetration and that was a similar story for Wijnaldum as well.

Liverpool fans had a torrid afternoon as they saw their side lose 2-0 to Burnley at Turf Moor in their second game of the season.

First-half goals from Sam Vokes and Andre Gray burst the Reds’ bubble after their eye-catching display in the 4-3 win against Arsenal on the opening day of the season.

Klopp was not happy after the game, but Keown feels the German looked calm on the touchline and does not feel he will panic.

“But for us, they are actually big for a club like Burnley”.

Poor game! Very poor!

Sturridge was back from injury to start up front but Liverpool missed the pace and energy of injured new signing Sadio Mane, one of the scorers against Arsenal.

“It takes concentration and focus from the players to see through that and see they’re not hurting us that much and that we will have breakaways and counters”.

Visitors Liverpool had 80% of the possession, took 26 shots of which five were on target, and earned 12 corners, according to BBC Sport.

Unsurprisingly, then, he is backing Jurgen Klopp’s side to have a strong campaign.

Speaking after the game, the boss was reluctant to place the blame on his defensive unit for the concession of two goals, instead preferring to highlight the fact that possession was surrendered cheaply on in both situations.

“It was a hard game for us, we passed the ball, lost the ball at the wrong moments”.

Sky Sports pundit and former England coach Gary Neville labelled Moreno’s tackle on Theo Walcott which led to the penalty “absolute garbage”, adding: “You might as well start a goal down with Moreno at left-back”.

“Possession doesn’t win you games”, he said.

“[Possession] is what we did well”, Klopp said.

“We have a lot of players who can play in our style of play at left full-back”.

“Then, you need good players to do good things and I thought we did today”.

Asked if he will spend money, he said: “The answer is I don’t know – we will see”.
