Browns’ Gordon in midseason form on deep TD

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston threw for 259 yards and two touchdowns in the first half, leading Tampa Bay to an easy 30-13 preseason win over the Cleveland Browns on Friday night at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla.

Josh Gordon showed why the Cleveland Browns are so happy to have him back on the field. The fall from grace has come on the heels of a stellar 2013 season in which Gordon had 87 catches for an NFL-best 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games. “But I thought it was a good start for him”. The receiver missed the first two preseason games due to a quad injury but on Friday returned to game action, his first chance to play with Griffin since 2010.

This was Gordon’s first game since December 21, 2014, the penultimate game of the regular season.

“I understand what the interest is in Josh”. But as Hue Jackson said after that game, Nassib seems to be one of those guys who just makes plays. At certain points, it would have been hard for the Browns to look worse, which is concerning given it was the third preseason game, which by most accounts is supposed to be the most important one. “I’m really excited for him”.

Gordon, who was reinstated by the NFL on a conditional basis last month, led the league in receiving yards in 2013.

While Coleman may be the most noticeable rookie on special teams because the ball is in his hands at the end of a punt, Tabor was pleased with the entire rookie class through training camp. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound receiver ran past Grimes on his first catch, then made a nice adjustment on the ball to gain the inside position to make his TD catch as he crossed the goal line.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do”, Jackson said on a conference call Saturday.

The same goes for Hawkins (hamstring), Coleman (hamstring) and Gordon (quadriceps), who all joined practice earlier this week. “Each team is a little bit different, but just playing and working against different guys is good”. “There are literally hundreds of conversations going around the league about players all the time, and if we got into speculating about all the reports, about what could be going on and what conversations could be going on, we’d be here for a much longer time than we have”.
