Trump to give immigration speech amid major questions
Donald Trump announced Sunday evening that he plans to deliver a “major speech on illegal immigration” in Arizona on Wednesday.

If Trump is going to clarify his remarks, not even the chairman of the Republican National Committee seems to know exactly when that will be. Earlier this month, Trump claimed in multiple speeches that Clinton lacks the “mental and physical stamina” required of the presidency.
When asked by CNN’s Anderson Cooper whether he would deport undocumented immigrants who lived in the United States peacefully but without papers, Trump said: “There is a very good chance the answer could be yes”.
Asked about the so-called “deportation force” that Trump had promised, vice presidential candidate Mike Pence said that the idea was a “mechanism, not a policy”-as if there was a distinction between the two”.
“But my priority is the well-being of 300 million American citizens, including millions of Hispanic citizens and legal residents who want a secure border, a safe and drug-free community, and a growing economy”, Trump said.
“We will move justly, but we will move fast, believe me, and we will move tough”, he said. He added that Christie is “not the only one” advising Trump on immigration but said “he is great value” to the Republican nominee.
In the final stage of his campaign, the NY billionaire is seeking to win the votes of African-American and Hispanic voters, two key constituencies with which Clinton claims a wide lead in the polls.
As my Fix colleague Aaron Blake has written, Trump is trying to make the case that Democrats’ policies are unfair to black and other Americans of color. Pence also did not answer whether the campaign believes, as Trump has said, that children born to people who are in the USA illegally are not US citizens.
Hillary Clinton is diving deep into opposition research and policy briefings in preparation for the presidential debates.
Welcome to McClatchy’s Voter Survival Guide, an interactive presentation of daily events from one of the strangest presidential campaigns in modern history. But he made it clear on Sunday he thinks he can do much more. Later, he wrote: “My condolences to Dwyane Wade and his family, on the loss of Nykea Aldridge”.
Asked whether the initial tweet was presidential or appropriate, GOP officials and campaign advisers instead talked about reducing crime or said they were pleased Trump followed up with a tweet of condolence and empathy.
The New Jersey governor deflected Raddatz, who tried to get him to acknowledge “that does sound like a softening from his original statements about getting everyone, 11 million undocumented workers, out of the country”.
Still, Christie on Sunday emphasized the role that local Republicans could play in the election and said Trump was not ceding the state, or the city, to Clinton. Find out via AP’s Election Buzz interactive.
