Jason Gillespie: Yorkshire coach to leave county at end of season

Yorkshire director of cricket Martyn Moxon has confirmed that the club will not begin their search for a new coach until the conclusion of the 2016 season, with the county’s next match against Hampshire set to begin on Wednesday.

Gillespie took over in 2011 and has led Yorkshire to back-to-back County Championship titles in 2014 and 2015.

The 41-year-old has been linked with several global jobs during his time in Yorkshire and already divides his time as coach of the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash.

Yorkshire, semi-finalists in both limited-overs competitions this season, are second in the County Championship and face a potential title decider against leaders Middlesex at Lord’s in Gillespie’s final match in charge, starting on September 20. It’s a tough decision that he’s made.

“At this point in time, I haven’t had a conversation with Darren about any role with Cricket Australia and I have not applied for any role with Cricket Australia. I was a bit raw, and struggling with my action”, Plunkett said. But it wasn’t – it was just about backing myself.

“I want to make it clear that I am happy in my role with Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Adelaide Strikers”, he said. He just said to me “bowl fast”, and he backed me. He’s brought me back to playing for England.

“He does other stuff with different people, but he knew what I wanted”, added Plunkett.

In a press release issued on Monday, the Yorkshire County Club thanked Gillespie for his services at the club and for making Yorkshire a far more superior team in the recent years. “So I wish him the best, and look forward to catching up when I get back to Yorkshire”. “With that came confidence and performance”.
