Liverpool manager Klopp explains why Sturridge was benched against Tottenham

Milner scored the penalty against Tottenham as the Reds went a goal up in the first half, but failed to stop Spurs from levelling up in the second period with Danny Rose latching on to a loose ball in the final third.

As far as the replacement of Philippe Coutinho, Divock Origi was chosen.

“Actually, why should I think about something like this?” There are a few similarities between Tottenham and Liverpool, most noticeably their driven coaches who want their players to perform at their best.

He gets the start Saturday with ahead of Kevin Stewart and Marko Grujic, but another poor performance could make it decision time for Jurgen Klopp in regards to his captain.

It’s hard to create one chance, we had a few.

“He (Sturridge) has now made three games”. But he kept on impressing in every pre-season appearance, especially against Barcelona when Liverpool thrashed the La Liga giants 4-0 at Wembly. Sturridge, he added, had joined pre-season later than the others who had built up an understanding. They played together. These guys up front played together.

Klopp’s line-up is unlikely to be radically different from the team he selected at Spurs on his Liverpool bow, with Martin Skrtel the only starting player to have left the club in the 10 months since. This showed against what we can do, how we can play.

Danny Rose struck a late equaliser after the kind of familiar defensive error which cost them dearly last season as Milner’s misjudged interception let Eric Dier in to cross.

But he insisted afterwards he is not a frustrated full-back, saying: “No no no”.

“At first I couldn’t believe it – to play for Liverpool?”.

“It is good, though”. “I think we are in the same way and it was a fair result”. I want to see how far I ran because I have never been this exhausted after a game.

“So it’s not so much Sadio Mane; the biggest problem Sturridge has got in big games is Firmino”.

– The Reds are without an away Premier League clean sheet in eight games, their longest run since November 2006 (also eight games).

Vorm knows he’ll have to keep playing out of his skin to keep his place in the side when skipper Lloris comes back from his injury. Spurs had the better of it in the closing stages but Lallana had arguably the best chance. From the resulting penalty, James Milner made no mistake.

Klopp urged on in typically animated fashion and it was only a lack of a killer touch from his side that prevented another victory. “It is one of those things”. You don’t win a game against Tottenham by four or five, they are a really good defending team. But he didn’t seem to mind.
