2 men shot by Illinois State Police in Chicago

Chicago is a nationwide leader in officer-involved shootings, though the Tribune analysis found that shootings declined over the six years it analyzed police actions.

Illinois State Troopers were conducting a traffic stop around 8:30 p.m.at 77th and Vincennes Ave in the city’s West Chatham neighborhood when they were flagged down by a cab driver, according to a release from ISP.

“The Troopers encountered an armed subject in the backseat of the taxi cab and shots were fired”, the statement said.

One was taken to Stroger Hospital, and the other was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

This is the second shooting this week involving state police. Earlier Sunday in the South Loop, a 45-year-old man was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head in an alley in the 1800 block of South Michigan about 10 a.m., police said.

This is a developing story.

Chicago, which was on the edge in recent months over alleged racial profiling by law enforcement, is undergoing major changes to the department and various bodies after protests over a 2014 shooting in which a white officer fired 16 bullets at Laquan McDonald, a black teen.

He also said: “As a police officer, you don’t wait for the shot to come in your direction”. He was shot at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday and was later pronounced dead.

A 19-year-old man, Mahadi Hering, was part of a group fighting with another group when someone pulled out a gun and opened fire on Chicago’s South Side Park Manor neighborhood, NBC reported.

At 6:13 p.m. on Friday, a 55-year-old man was shot and killed in the North Side Uptown neighborhood.

Police could not provide their conditions but said they were both “stable”. He was pronounced dead at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center at 6:51 p.m.
