Five people were arrested by police, who had to send 13 units to subdue the crowds shortly after 5pm yesterday.
A spokesperson said officers did not know how or why the incident started but they were hoping to get more details from the restaurant’s surveillance footage.
Police say they didn’t come across anyone with injuries, but a KFC employee told the New Zealand Herald some had blood streaming from their faces.
“It was evident something was up and they weren’t just walking through they were congregating and standing around”, he said.
She saw students taken away in police cars.
He said the school would deal with the incident if, and when, approached by police.
Fowler said it was a “rare” event for the area, though there used to be a lot of student fights in previous years.
“There was a swarm of at least 50, it could’ve been 100 of them, and they were running up and down the road and then it all started”, a staff member said.
They immediately locked the doors of the library once they saw the commotion in order to protect visitors. It was insane. About 10 police cars turned up. “Some of them didn’t look like they were even school kids”. “We have a good relationship with other principals.so will be in contact with them and the police”.
He said CCTV will be taken from the scene and will be reviewed to determine exactly what happened and who was involved.
A spokesman from another school confirmed he had been informed about the fight.
Students from two Auckland schools brawled in the KFC on Monday.
Staples said as far as he was aware there was no animosity between pupils from the two schools.
The fight also left frightened diners inside the KFC, with several students carrying on punching each other inside the fast food store.
