Violence will yield no positive result: Mehbooba Mufti
On the Prime Minister Modi’s monthly radio talk “Maan Ki Baat”, Chavan said, “He (PM) has expressed concerns and regrets over the loss of lives in Kashmir, but, I think, he failed to admit that it is the alliance between the PDP and BJP, which has failed to administer the state and has lost control of the state”.

“It is the view of all of us, of 125 crore people from a pradhan of a village to the prime minister, that if any life is lost in Kashmir, whether of any youth or any security man, that loss is ours”. To keep it united, it is the responsibility of all of us, as individual citizens, as a society and as a government, to strengthen the unity as much as we can, highlight it as much as we can.
The chief minister exhorted the “bunch of people” – referring to those provoking the youth to attack security forces – to stop violence and create a conducive atmosphere for talks.
The Prime Minister’s remarks came a day after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti met him and presented a three-pronged action plan that includes dialogue with all stakeholders.
She said that rumours were spread against her government on one pretext or the other, but made it clear that the state has a special place in the heart of the India and nobody is going to do anything with that special place. The Chief Minister said the coalition was formed to ensure that Jammu and Kashmir is brought out from the almost 70- year-old turmoil and misfortune. “In case she does not bring about a change, she will be the first to own up and make way”, Dr Beg had said in the statement that has made BJP’s position awkward in the country. We had to adopt the Vajpayee doctrine. She went on to add, “Whatever has happened has happened” and said the two countries should Vajpayee’s initiative.
Stating that not enough has been done to implement the “agenda of alliance” between her party PDP and the BJP, the chief minister said that the prime minister reiterated his commitment that the political, economic and developmental initiatives enumerated in the “agenda of alliance” will be implemented with sincerity of goal.
Mehbooba recalled that Vajpayee had undertaken a bus ride to Lahore after which then Pakistan Army Chief Gen Pervez Musharraf had engineered Kargil aggression. “But if we continue doing what we have been doing, then perhaps we will again be disappointed”, he said while mentioning about thousands of messages to him from people who wanted him to speak on the subject of sports in view of poor performance in Rio Olympics as they were badly disappointed. But these are already being used here as an affidavit filed by the CRPF in Jammu and Kashmir High Court earlier this month had said that it has fired 800 shells of hot PAVA projectiles (pepper balls) between July 8 and August 11 to contain protests. “In the past, interlocutors came and filed reports but it yielded no output”, she said.
