Woman loses all 4 limbs from tick bite

Speaking to ABC7, Jo’s cousin Lisa Morgan said: “She was shaking her hands because they hurt, her feet hurt”. Keith Rogers noted that his wife’s symptons started with headaches before turning into fevers – then there was vomiting and dizziness.

“It can cause an inflammation of blood vessels that can cause a disruption in flow to the arms and legs”, said Infectious Disease Specialist, Dr. Skip Nolan at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Keith Rogers said that he visits his wife every day at the hospital as she battles other complications from RMSF, including blood clots in her lungs that necessitated a tracheotomy last Friday. But when doctors tested for West Nile Virus and meningitis, the results came back negative, leaving them scrambling for answers.

Jo Rogers, 40, contracted deadly Rocky Mountain spotted fever while on a short family trip to northeast Oklahoma.

(Lisa Morgan) “You’re still with us, you’re going to get to watch your boys grow up and you’ve got a lot people pulling for you, she really does”.

She remains in a medically-induced coma after she went into septic shock, the post said.

Jo Rogers, a 40-year old woman from Shawnee, Oklahama never expected that she would have to undergo an amputation after getting a simple tick bite while on vacation with her husband. However, when it does occur in people, it is easily diagnosed and treated with the antibiotic, doxycycline.

Oklahoma is one of five states where the infection rate for the disease is three to 10 times the national average. Unfortunately, Rogers’ family didn’t notice it until too late.

Only 1% to 3% of ticks carry the bacteria called Rickettsia rickettsii, according to Oklahoma’s health department, and to transmit it, the host tick usually has to bite for four to six hours.

“She’s a attractive, energetic fun person”, her cousin told KOCO.

Now a quad amputee, Rogers’ family is rallying around her, raising money to help her in a new life, that they say she is lucky to have. “I mean nobody deserves this”, she told KOCO-TV.
