Radwanska tunes up for U.S. Open with Connecticut victory
Number one seed Agnieszka Radwanska secured the WTA Connecticut Open title with a 6-1 7-6 (7-3) victory over Elina Svitolina in New Haven.

Radwanska didn’t just win the Connecticut Open, she dominated from start to finish by winning every set in every match en route to her first title since January.
Radwanska rattled through the first set in less than 30 minutes as the 21-year-old Svitolina struggled on serve.
“Winning a tournament like this, not losing a set, it means I really played good tennis”, Radwanska said. No easy matches. I was pushing myself 100 percent from the first round, working hard here.
The second set was much closer.
And Svitolina actually challenged Radwanska in that set, breaking her more experienced opponent in the second game to seize control.
“So now it’s everything in my power to do good in the U.S. Open”, she said with a big grin.
In the doubles draw, Sania Mirza cemented her place at the top of the doubles ranking.
BUSTA’S FIRST TITLE: Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta won his first ATP World Tour title, beating countryman Roberto Bautista Agut, 6-7 (8), 7-6 (7), 6-4, in the Winston-Salem (N.C.) Open, the final men’s U.S. Open tuneup.
The world number four, granted a wild card after she wanted extra practice ahead of next week’s US Open, despatched the Russian 6-1 7/6 (7/2). That means a chance for up to an extra $1 million, depending on her finish in NY next week, where she will be the No. 4 seed. “It will be worth it, right?”
Svitolina, who stunned Serena Williams at the Rio Olympics, will play Monday against Mandy Minella.

The last wildcard entrant blasted Petra Kvitova in the semifinals Saturday 6-1, 6-1 and then roared out to a similar scoreline in the first set of the final before the Ukrainian mounted a late surge.
