Jason Garrett won’t rule Tony Romo out for Week 1

While coach Jason Garrett and executive vice president Stephen Jones were not ready to put a timetable on Romo’s return this season, going so far as to not yet rule him out for the September 11 season opener against the New York Giants, there does not appear to be any question the Cowboys will be playing at least one game without Romo for the fourth straight season.

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garret has announced that their starting quarterback Tony Romo will be out until midseason. While many will argue – and with good reason – that preseason stats mean very little, Prescott feels he is more prepared to play at the National Football League level than many other rookie quarterbacks. However, there is nearly no scenario in which Romo walks away from this specific back injury.

“We’ve been given a lot of timetables”, he told reporters in a Sunday morning press conference. Romo got injured playing against the Seahawks, but the injury was more serious than first thought. That’s not the world we live in.

Coach Jason Garrett wouldn’t say whether Prescott will be held out against the Texans.

The 36-year-old Romo underwent a pair of back surgeries in 2013 and he missed most of last season with a twice-broken left collarbone.

If I’m the Cowboys, I would start thinking about my future and the post-Romo era and realize they may need to go to another QB to take over.

I am a firm believer that Tony Romo should just hang it up already. “All the work he’s done and put into this point to see him go down is pretty bad”.

“Again we’ll take his situation day by day like we do with every guy on our team and every injury that we have”.

“It’s not related to the other back issues that he’s had”, Garrett said. Injuries are a part of the game. “I think our team feels good about Dak”. Sure it is only the preseason, but he has taken the field with some of the best and after going toe to toe with defensive elites in Seattle, Prescott played exceptionally well. Fourth rounder Dak Prescott got plenty of reps during camp with Kellen Moore going down and behold the impressive play of Dak Prescott this preseason.

If Romo is not available in Week 1, the Cowboys would likely turn to rookie Dak Prescott, who has had a strong preseason.
