Drake and Rihanna kiss on stage

Drake wasn’t the only rapper to get friend zoned at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, as G-Eazy was quickly rejected by Britney Spears during their performance.

Washington D.C., August 29: Looks like Kanye West used his allotted four-minutes at MTV Video Music Awards this year, quite well. The 39-year-old rapper, who shared a very good relation with the MTV VMAs, was there this year to unveil the video for ‘Fade, ‘ track from his controversial album ‘ Life of Pablo’. Before the mother of two presented the moonman for best male video to Calvin Harris, she used her platform to reflect on the 53rd anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech – later sharing a poem inspired by the activist. I’m always wishing for Beyonce to win, so. This year it was awarded to Rihanna, who split up her performances throughout the night, singing hits such as “Work”, “We Found Love” and “Love on the Brain”. It’s unclear if they jetted to The 6 after the VMAs, which took place in NYC, though the Instagram post seems to be Drake’s way of confirming that he is indeed getting that “Work” from the girl he’s been in love with for nearly seven years now.

The dress spoke first, before Rihanna ever opened her plum-lined mouth.

“She’s someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22 years old”, Drake said as Rihanna blushed and the audience cheered loudly. “She’s one of my best friends in the world”. All my adult life, I’ve looked up to her, even though she’s younger than me. “Of course Chris texted and called Rihanna to congratulate her on her award”. But now my success is not my own. “It’s my family’s, it’s my fan’s, it’s my country’s, it’s the Caribbean as a whole, it’s women, it’s black women, so many people feel like their little piece is such a major part of this puzzle, and I have to thank you guys for supporting me over and over”. Not only did she lip sync, in typical fashion, but she did so badly.

There’s a fire in her eyes when she sings and dances, not unlike that seen in the eyes of Beyoncé.

Beyonce closed her performance with “Formation”, for which she won a VMA for Video of the Year. I’m standing here in front of my wife, Kim Kardashian West.

But perhaps the biggest feat MTV accomplished was making us actually want to watch a music video. All told, the 2015 show grossed just shy of 10 million viewers across all of the networks.

Jimmy Fallon, who presented video of the year, dressed as Ryan Lochte and even sported the platinum blonde hair.

Other presenters included Alicia Keys, Puff Daddy and four of the Final Five gymnasts (Gabby Douglas was hospitalized for a mouth infection). Fifth Harmony was a double victor, taking home song of summer and best collaboration video.
