Liverpool to sell Luis Alberto

According to a report in The Sun, Liverpool’s young Spanish forward Luis Alberto is set to complete a move to the Serie A giants Lazio. “The fee also includes add-ons and a 30% sell-on clause for the Reds”. Alberto has travelled to Rome to discuss personal terms. Both Valencia and boyhood club Sevilla were mooted, though neither was willing or able to pay a fee that satisfied Liverpool.

The midfielder impressed in his loan outing at Liga BBVA side Deportivo La Coruna with a return of six goals and seven assists in 29 appearances, but is not seemingly a part of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans at Anfield (stats via whoscored).

Alberto was one of the first signings of the Brendan Rodgers era at Liverpool, and he seemed a flawless fit for the controlled possession game the manager had arrived at the club preaching. The transfer deadline is nearly here and outgoings are more expected than incomings at Liverpool (Players like Mario Balotelli Lazar Markovic, Mamadou Sakho, etc are all expected to leave).

In all, he made just 9 Premier League appearances for the club – all of which came in the 2013/14 season – before being sent on loan to Malaga and Deportivo respectively.

A £4.2 million fee has been agreed with Lazio for the midfielder, who spent the previous two season on loan after struggling to adapt to life on Merseyside. The Spaniard is expected to be announced as a Lazio player on Tuesday or Wednesday morning.
