GCSE results: Jarrow School pupils shocked by great results

The grades are the school’s best yet at 66% five A*- C including maths and English – an increase of 15% on previous year.
In addition, 24.6 per cent achieved the English Baccalaureate qualification, up from 22.4 per cent in 2015.
Villers High School in Southall has seen another fantastic year of results with 68% achieving C or better in maths, with 25% getting A* or A grades.
Staff and students at Wellfield School celebrate GCSE results.
Head teacher Anna Chaudhri congratulated all the students on their results and thanked the staff for their hard work: “There have been some excellent individual performances this year, with many students outperforming expectations”.
Other subject highlights include pass rates above 70% A*-C in business, engineering and drama with music achieving a 100% pass rate at A*-C.
Thornleigh Salesian College celebrated its best examination results, with 75 per cent gaining the benchmark standard of young people gaining five or more top-graded results including English and maths – an increase of seven per cent.
Headteacher Jill Gillies said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the results”.
There were also outstanding results in many subjects enabling the students to confidently secure college places.
She said: “This has given me a lot more confidence with my A Levels, I think I’m going to celebrate with a Chinese takeaway”.
Rebecca Smith was delighted with her 11A* grades, she said: “I’m just so happy about my results”. I got an A in maths and three A*s in all the sciences, which is so much better than I had hoped for.

There are still a small number of places available to start the Sixth Form at Kings Priory School in September.
