The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) imposed the fine after hearing a complaint filed by Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Bukhari told reporters that their petition is based on the prime minister’s May 16 speech delivered on the floor of the National Assembly.

The PTI chief also made seven other people as respondents in the petition, including premier’s daughter Maryam Safdar, sons Hussain and Hassan Nawaz, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the interior secretary and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). Sources were of the view that the nature of all references was nearly the same so speaker Ayaz Sadiq had to apply his mind without discrimination.The decision of the first reference against Imran Khan may be applied on other references as well and if he takes different lines on every reference then the post of the Speaker could become controversial.
