Northern Drone WorX a commercial drone operator based out of Duluth offers ground courses to teach new drone pilots about airspace, safety, and drone regulations.

The FAA had already granted 76 waivers allowing commercial operations beyond the law’s basic restrictions, the agency’s administrator, Michael Huerta, said at the briefing, adding that most were for basic requests to fly at night with special lighting.

The FAA says the interest in using the using the unmanned aircraft systems is high.

On Monday we all got a little closer to the ultimate dream: a drone-delivered pizza. “It’s better for all of us involved”.

The demonstration exemplifies what will likely by a routine practice for utility companies down the road, as the use of drones makes checking the condition of infrastructure safer and more cheap. In these cases, businesses must seek permission from the government for projects that fall “outside the perimeters of what is included in the rule”, said Huerta.

-Limit drone operations to the hours from a half-hour before sunrise to a half-hour after sunset.

It’s important to keep in mind that these rules do not apply to folks who just fly drones for fun. “It turned out that there were some kinks in the system”. Eleven people were scheduled to take the test this week, with at least two more on deck in the coming weeks.

Warner said the new rule will also allow for a number of small businesses in Virginia and around the county to “more cheaply, safely and efficiently harness some of the enormous potential promised by this technology”. You must keep the drone in your line of sight and cannot fly over anyone who is not directly participating in the operation. Mark Warner (D-Va.) said in a statement. A company can take flight with that quadcopter as the sun is setting though as long as it has anti-collision lights.

In the future, the FAA also will address operations not covered by Part 107 without a waiver, including operations over people, beyond line of sight operations, extended operations, flight in urban areas, and flight at night.

The FAA came out with restrictive regulations regarding the recreational use of drone prior to last year’s holiday seasons.

According to the FAA, the new rules could generate more than $82 billion for the economy and create more than 100,000 new jobs over the next 10 years. “These new rules are our latest step toward transforming aviation and society with this technology in very profound ways”.
