Trevor Siemian named Denver Broncos’ Week One starter

But through training camp and the first three preseason games, Siemian showed his command of the offense and ability to move the team.

Siemian beat out rookie Paxton Lynch and veteran Mark Sanchez for the job.

Last year, Siemian was active for six games, sitting behind Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler.

“That’s what I told the team this morning”, Kubiak said.

Siemian started the Broncos’ preseason game against the Rams on Saturday night and completed 10 of 17 passes for 122 yards.

Siemian’s only regular-season National Football League snap was a kneel-down last season as the third-string quarterback. “I just want to play and I want to win”.

If Sanchez does not make the Broncos’ roster, the Eagles will not receive the conditional pick they hoped they would be trading Sanchez. A little more than a year ago, Siemian was expecting to go undrafted as he recovered from a torn ACL that ended his Northwestern career early.

According to Sanders, this isn’t just an act that Siemian puts on in front of the media; he is like this even on the field. I assume he just fell on the ball to end a game. With all the good that the Broncos second-year man has done, he’s also had a few bad decisions that have lead to turnovers.

Sanders couldn’t stop using the phrase “calm, cool and collected” when talking about Siemian on Monday, pointing to the fact that Siemian never lets the moment get too big for him. “We’re in the process of putting this football team together right now”.

“We’re gonna start working on Carolina, and start trying to build even more chemistry working after practice and get this thing on the same page so we can start winning some ballgames”, Sanders said. “For me, I’m not reading too much into anything and trying to be the best teammate and leader I can be”. “I don’t care”, Ealy said. They’ve been battling and I think they’re getting better.

Sanchez hurt his chances with two red-zone fumbles against San Francisco, but Kubiak said it was more of what Siemian did that won him the job. He was the seventh quarterback taken in the 2015 draft and will be the third starter from that class, joining Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota.

But Kubiak doesn’t think the challenge of being a starter and opening under such circumstances is beyond what Siemian can handle – in part because of the experience that will surround him.

Denver is hoping to catch some lightning in a bottle with Siemian, and maybe he’ll defy the seventh-round odds and become a functional signal caller?
