Apple announces iPhone 7 release date; sends out invites

Of course, the very date of the event, September 7, may be a nice nod to the long rumored iPhone 7, of which there are likely to be more than one model, perhaps an iPhone 7 and an iPhone 7 Plus. The launch event will take place in San Francisco at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium at 10 a.m. PT.

Apple is also expected to unveil the new Apple Watch 2 with Global Positioning System and Altimeter at the September 7 event.

Look, some people are suspecting a new Watch, but frankly, the current one is pretty darn good, let down only by software – the new Watch OS version will be released in the next month, that’s the big update. Apple is going full on this time, again.

Assuming Apple does unveil new iPhone models, pre-orders will most likely start on September 9th with delivery and in-store availability on September 16th. The iPhone 7 is expected to feature a return to a dark blue color or maybe even a near black ‘space black’ option.

A dual-lens camera for the iPhone could “allow for different focusing tricks such as the blurry background Apple has in its invite”, reports tech blog Recode.

As expected, the debut event to showcase the next iPhone is slated for September, and Apple has just rolled out its official invites. According to this leak, the iPhone 7 will be a 4.7-inch device with an A10 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 1,960 mAh battery and a 12-megapixel rear camera. Both the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6 were released in September. Also, the iPhone 7 will change its iconic home button to a pressure-sensitive pad.

There’s been plenty of rumours flying around the web about what to expect on Apple’e next generation iPhone. Most notable is the removal of the 3.5 millimeter headphone jack, which is the standard on almost every modern audio device.
