Manchester City sweat over Sergio Aguero ban

The only real negative for City was Sergio Aguero’s apparent elbow on Winston Reid in the second half that went unpunished at the time but could lead to retrospective action and a ban ruling the striker out of the derby clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford that comes after the worldwide break.

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has been ruled out of Argentina’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Uruguay and Venezuela due to a calf injury, according to Sky Sports.

Aguero could face retrospective action by the Football Association, and suspension, if the incident in City’s 3-1 Premier League win is judged to have been deliberate.

The striker could be in trouble with the English FA after television replays appeared to show him elbowing West Ham’s Winston Reid in the throat in an incident missed by the referee at City.

Should a ban be imposed, Aguero could miss the derby date against arch-rival Manchester United, which is next up for City on 10 September, after the worldwide break.

“I didn’t see it at all”, he said. “I’m enjoying my football and I am enjoying winning games and I am working hard”. “If it happens, we accept and adapt”.

“It’s exciting and some things we need to work on, but as the season goes on we will just get better and better”.

Two goals from Raheem Sterling and one from Fernandinho clinched a fifth win in as many league and cup games under Guardiola’s management, although a header from Michail Antonio – called up into the England squad for the first time later Sunday – brought West Ham back to 2-1 and provided City with some anxious moments.

“What have I done to him?”

When it was then put to Silva that City’s display at the Etihad Stadium was reminiscent of Guardiola’s former club Barcelona at times, the 30-year-old Spain worldwide said: “We have our own style. We can’t play much better than we did in the second half, especially when you are missing six, seven, eight players and you play against them (City)”. He is so dynamic. “Everyone’s hungry, everyone’s ready to run and play for him.I knew if I kept working hard I would get my chances”.

“Of course it’s going to change totally the shape of the team and also the quality”.
