The incident began on the Garden State Parkway, according to the New Jersey State Police which is handling the investigation with assistance from the Egg Harbor Township Police Department. Police attempted to determine if the two incidents are related.
As a result, Egg Harbor City was planning an emergency meeting to discuss public safety Monday night.
Police said no identification of the deceased was available yet, but stated all victims are males under 40 years old. They were all taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center where they remain in unknown conditions. He said that no other vehicles were hit by bullets. It’s not clear what led to the incident and whether all of the victims were involved in the same shooting.
There were bullet holes in the front windshield and on the passenger side door of the SUV at the Wawa. “One of the victims was located on the Garden State Parkway, at mile-marker 37.9 northbound”, Williams told NJ 101.5. Police did not release a motive, but said they do not believe the shooting was a random act and the people involved likely knew each other, according to WCAU. Authorities said at least one victim had “serious” injuries.
State Police temporarily closed the eastbound Atlantic City Expressway, where traffic was diverted at Exit 14.
