Ronaldo beats Bale and Griezmann to Best Player in Europe award

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has admitted in an interview with the Uefa official website that last season was the best of his career, as he won the Champions League crown with Real Madrid before helping his national team conquer Euro 2016. First, he dragged Real Madrid to Champions League glory (pulling them through the least daunting field maybe ever, but hey, winning’s winning) in May. Ironically, both times, he failed to inspire his team to win the final against a team led by Ronaldo.

“Thanks to my team-mates from Real Madrid and Portugal”. The Best Player in Europe award goes to the player who polls the most votes cast by 55 journalists – one representing each association member.

“I think Cristiano’s award is recognition for one of his most impressive seasons, he’s won everything”.

However, the Real Madrid superstar wasn’t exactly at the top of his game during his country’s path to the final – although he did score three times before setting up a clash against the hosts, France in the final.

But despite the standout season of the two other nominees, Ronaldo definitely deserves this award by having an even better outing.

Reflecting on winning the gong for a second time, Ronaldo said: “It’s incredible”.

“I´m obviously delighted to receive this award, it´s been an incredible season”.

The Portuguese legend also became the first player to score more than fifteen goals in two consecutive Champions League seasons.

Real Madrid were, meanwhile, paired with Borussia Dortmund, Legia Warsaw and Ronaldo’s home-town club Sporting when the draw was completed, with the player admitting he is looking forward to facing his old side.

That was your second UEFA Champions League win in three years.

The other player in the fray to be crowned as the best player in Europe alongside Griezmann and Ronaldo is Ronaldo’s Real Madrid team mate and Welsh worldwide Gareth Bale.
