Hillary Clinton’s Lead Cut in Half in New National Poll

The announcement came late Sunday in a tweet by the GOP presidential nominee after days of wavering – and at least one canceled speech – on a question central to his campaign: Whether he would, as he said in November, use a “deportation force” to eject the estimated 11 million people in the US illegally.

Some Republicans, including pollster Whit Ayres, have said Trump’s outreach to African-American voters has more to do with bolstering his image among white voters who are uncomfortable with his campaign.

The magnate plans to give a speech detailing his immigration policy next week, something he has postponed several times in a moment of confusion over his apparent flip-flops on a subject that has won him the most electoral support up to now.

But as the summer nears its end, if Donald Trump is not yet toast, he’s certainly looking toasty.

Bottom line: Would undocumented immigrants have to leave the United States?

Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson says he’s optimistic about getting into the presidential debates, but admits it would be “game over” if he doesn’t make the cut. They insisted that Trump has been “consistent” on his immigration policy.

Trump’s running mate, Mike Pence, tried to parse the Republican nominee’s shifts as evidence that he is working through the issue during an interview Sunday with Jake Tapper on CNN’s “State of the Union”.

This past week, however, the Republican presidential candidate – once uncompromising in his vow to use a deportation force to repatriate illegal migrants – seemed a little less resolute.

Conway said the candidate has said that people who want to be in the USA legally must apply through legal means. Moreover, the safest course for him politically may be to continue to obfuscate on immigration policy to avoid antagonize either side of the debate.

He also repeated his basic promise to build a wall on the Mexican border and said that if he wins the election, he will “stop illegal immigrants from accessing welfare and entitlements”. The Democratic presidential candidate said her Republican opponent may try and convey “gravity” or he could seek to “score points”.

To date, Trump’s campaign has posted just seven policy proposals on his website, totaling just over 9,000 words.

“For the 11 million people, come on, folks”, Kasich said to Trump. We’ll buy the part about the election cycle being insane, but Gary Johnson is now polling at 8% with about ten weeks left to go. It’s a silly argument.

“Let me just tell you”, Trump retorted, “that Dwight Eisenhower, good president, great president, people liked him”.

So has he scrapped the idea of removing all undocumented immigrants from the country? “You don’t get friendlier”, Trump added. It’s back in the spotlight now as Trump has tried to make debunked rumors about Hillary Clinton’s health a campaign issue with less than 2 1/2 months to go before Election Day.
