Man Utd prise U18 coach McKenna away from Tottenham

FERMANAGH man Kieran McKenna is reported to have taken up a coaching role at Manchester United, having been snapped up from Tottenham Hotspur. He led Spurs’ Under-18 side to the semi-final of the FA Youth Cup previous year, but couldn’t get past Chelsea, despite beating the Blues youngsters 2-0 in the first leg at White Hart Lane.

The 30-year-old was on the books at White Hart Lane for seven years before a persistent hip problem forced him to retire from playing in 2009.

The Mail says McKenna has been coaching Tottenham’s Under-18 side and has moved to United to fill the void left by Paul McGuinness, who left in February.

United’s youth team is obviously in need of a new head coach and it seems like the club has made a decision to give the role to McKenna.

United have seen some youth players come through in recent years, but none have gone on to become regulars for the club.

There are more hopes for the current crop, with Marcus Rashford, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, and Axel Tuanzebe all with varying chances of first-team football this season.

New manager Jose Mourinho, quite strangely, wants the club to produce more players in the mold of Marcus Rashford, who scored the injury-time victor against Hull City on Saturday.
