Paul Gillespie, head of the Long Beach Lifeguards, says no one is supposed to be in the water after the guards go off duty at 6 p.m.

According to officials, the three men were carried out by the strong current near Edwards Boulevard around 6:20 p.m. Monday.

Long Beach police were called at about 6:30 p.m. about an unconscious man near Edwards Boulevard, PIX 11 NY reported.

A third man made it out of the water on his own.

A high rip current risk was in effect at all South Shore beaches on Long Island at the time. Later that evening, two women riding a watercraft were hurt after crashing into a bridge in Reynolds Channel.
