Long Beach: Ocean closed to swimmers after drowning
Lifeguards will reevaluate later Tuesday morning. Police say a 26-year-old Brooklyn man was pronounced dead there. A second person pulled from the water was taken to Long Beach Medical Center and is expected to survive.

Paul Gillespie, head of the Long Beach Lifeguards, says no one is supposed to be in the water after the guards go off duty at 6 p.m.
According to officials, the three men were carried out by the strong current near Edwards Boulevard around 6:20 p.m. Monday.
Long Beach police were called at about 6:30 p.m. about an unconscious man near Edwards Boulevard, PIX 11 NY reported.
A third man made it out of the water on his own.
A high rip current risk was in effect at all South Shore beaches on Long Island at the time. Later that evening, two women riding a watercraft were hurt after crashing into a bridge in Reynolds Channel.

Less than 24 hours after a Brooklyn man drowned at Ocean Beach Park in Long Beach, the city early Tuesday closed beaches to swimmers.
