There are now long delays on the M5 southbound in Somerset following a crash.

There are now five fire engines at the scene.

The road has been reopened, but is expected to be gridlocked for the remainder of the day as a result of the incidents and commuters returning home from bank holiday trips away.

Motorists haver resorted to getting out of their cars in the queues, which has also led to problems on the northbound carriageway.

A child has been flown to hospital after a “serious” crash on the M5.
