Omnium glory gives Laura Trott historic fourth gold
Trott, who has previously lived in Fallowfield, is the first British female athlete to win four gold medals, adding to the two she won at the London Olympics in 2012.

With the victory, the 24-year-old clinched her second successive team pursuit and omnium double after she also won both events at London in 2012.
Hoy, who was commentating for British television in Rio, handed Kenny his one defeat in an Olympics, beating his then 20-year-old teammate in the sprint gold medal race eight years ago.
Laura Trott and Jason Kenny will be remembered as the “golden couple” of the Rio Games.
Trott now has four Olympic gold medals to her name at the age of 24 after racking up 230 points, finishing 24 better off than American silver medallist Sarah Hammer, with Jolien D’Hoore taking bronze for Belgium.
“We knew coming here to Rio that the racing wasn’t going to be easy”.
Kenny kept his cool to win his third gold of the Rio Games. “Our kids have to get some of these genes right?!”
Kenny joins fellow track cycling great Chris Hoy on six gold medals after ensuring Matthijs Buchli of the Netherlands and Malaysian Azizulhasni Awang won silver and bronze respectively.
She now has four Olympic medals, the most by a British woman.
“After I won we spoke about everything else but [gold medals]”. “He started showing me £10 engagement rings on a website and told me that when he proposed that’s what I was getting”, Trott said.
Hammer finished behind Great Britain’s Laura Trott in the race for gold, with Trott accumulating a total of 230 points to Hammer’s 206.
Marchant’s bronze means every single British track cyclist will return to the United Kingdom with a medal from Rio. I love him to bits @JasonKenny107!
Trott, meanwhile, had a 12-point lead after the fourth of six disciplines in the omnium.
“But it’s mental – I was there in Beijing when Chris won his three, and as the years have gone by, I have grown to appreciate how special his achievement was”.

There was further British success in the women’s individual sprint, but it would not be another gold, with Germany’s Kristina Vogel triumphing in the final.
